| TDP - Frequently Asked QuestionsTable of Content
General:A: TDP is the abbreviation for Target Deployment Package.
A: The TDP is one of three new products related to modeling and developing real-time software. The other two are Rational Rose RealTime, the base modeling product, and Rational Suite DevelopmentStudio - RealTime edition. The TDP is new to the 6.1 release. The TDP is an add-in to Rose RealTime. It provides all of the necessary libraries, scripts, and files to support generating code to run on 20+ real-time operating system environments. These would be in addition to the 3 other host platforms supported out of the box with the base product. The TDP does not add any new features to the base product. It simply adds more target support. Also provided in with the purchased TDP license is the right to distribute, with no royalty, the generated applications.
Q: What is the TDP in relation to the old Modeler and Developer editions of Rose RT?
A: Prior to the 6.1 release (6.1 just went GA and is now shipping!), we had two product variants: Rose RealTime Modeler and Rose RealTime
Developer. Unfortunately, we could not say that the developer edition simply offered more target support. In fact, it also included more
features too. Although this packaging worked well for us, it was decided that simpler is better and we repackaged Rose RealTime so that the base product has all
available features and a separate add-in, i.e. TDP, would provide support for more targets other than just the hosts. Hence the TDP was born.
A simple way of looking at this is like this:
A: If Rose RealTime is going to be used to generate code to only run on the same host as the Rose is running on, e.g. NT, then Rose RealTime is all that is needed. However, if you want to also target VxWorks, or pSOS, QNX, etc. Then we are talking about cross targeting another OS and that will require installing the Target Deployment Package (TDP) product.
Q: Where do I go for specifics on what targets the TDP supports? A: Reference the Rose RealTime documentation.
Q: Are there different variants of the TDPs available?
A: No. There is only one TDP product available and it supports both Unix and NT platforms. The same disk and download apply.
Installation:Q: Is the TDP included with the Rational Suite DevelopmentStudio - RealTime edition? A: No. The RSDS-RT suite only includes the base product, Rational Rose RealTime. TDP must be purchased separately.
Q: What should I know about installing the TDP? A: Rational Rose RealTime is installed, whether as standalone product or by way of a suite install, first and then the TDP, if purchased, is installed after. During installation, an Install Key will have to be entered. A default key is provided with the product when it is shipped. The TDP is installed on top of the same directory structure as the base product. The TDP CD ROM has all of the target ports on it. An install key is used to unpack and install specific ones.
A: During installation, Install Keys are used to control which of the 20+ target ports are installed. A single key can install any combination, from one to all, target ports. By default, the TDP product is shipped with an Install Key which installs Tornado I, Tornado II, pSOS, and OSE.
